Early Life and College
Drake Lee Maye was born on August 30, 2002, in Huntersville, North Carolina, into one of the most athletic families in the state. His father, Mark Maye, was a three-year starting quarterback at the University of North Carolina from 1984 to 1987, and his oldest brother, Luke Maye, was a star forward on UNC's 2017 national-championship basketball team. Two other brothers, Cole and Beau, also played collegiate sports.
Maye attended William A. Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, before transferring to Myers Park High School in Charlotte, where he starred in both football and basketball. He committed to the University of North Carolina, where he played from 2021 to 2023.
In 2022, Maye had one of the greatest seasons in school history: he passed for a school-record 4,321 yards with 38 touchdowns, led the NCAA in total offense, and swept the Shaun Alexander Award, ACC Player of the Year, and ACC Rookie of the Year honors.
NFL Career
Draft and Rookie Season (2024)
The New England Patriots selected Maye with the 3rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, making him the franchise's quarterback of the future. After beginning his rookie season as the backup to veteran Jacoby Brissett, Maye was named the starter in Week 6 and never looked back. He threw for 2,276 yards and 15 touchdowns as a rookie and earned Pro Bowl honors — a remarkable debut that set the stage for his second-year breakout.
Breakout Season and Super Bowl LX (2025)
In 2025, Maye took a massive leap, leading the Patriots to their first division title since 2019 with a 14–3 record. He threw for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns, led the NFL in passer rating and completion percentage, won the Bert Bell Award, and earned second-team All-Pro and a second consecutive Pro Bowl selection.
Maye guided New England to Super Bowl LX — the Patriots' first Super Bowl appearance in seven years — where they faced the Seattle Seahawks. At 23, he became the second-youngest quarterback ever to start a Super Bowl, behind only Dan Marino.
2026 Season
Now in his third season, Maye remains the face of the Patriots' offense as the franchise continues to build around its young star quarterback. New England opened the 2026 season with a Super Bowl rematch against the Seahawks, and Maye has continued to draw MVP chatter as the centerpiece of one of the league's most balanced teams.
Off-Field Presence
Beyond football, Maye has become one of the NFL's most marketable young stars. His endorsements include national campaigns with Gillette, Betterment, and Abercrombie & Fitch, and he recently became an investor and athlete-owner in Athletic Brewing Company alongside Dak Prescott. Together with his wife Ann Michael, he has starred in joint campaigns for brands including CarGurus, L.L.Bean, and Amica Mutual Insurance, where the couple's New England life features prominently.
Wife and Family
Drake Maye's wife is Ann Michael Maye (née Hudson), his childhood sweetheart. The two began dating in seventh grade in 2015, when they were both 12 years old, and stayed together through high school. Ann Michael followed him to the University of North Carolina, where she graduated in May 2025 with a degree in business administration and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority.
Maye proposed during a vacation in Mexico in January 2025, shortly after his rookie season ended. The couple married on June 21, 2025, in a ceremony in North Carolina — nearly a decade after their relationship began.
Ann Michael comes from a football family herself: her father played football at Wofford College, and her younger brother Tad Hudson was a quarterback at North Carolina who briefly overlapped with Drake. She has built her own following on TikTok, where her viral baking videos — including her "Bakemas" series — have earned her more than 500,000 followers, plus partnerships with brands like JetBlue and appearances on NBC10 Boston.
The couple has no children as of this writing.
Net Worth
Maye signed a four-year, $36.64 million fully guaranteed rookie contract with the Patriots in 2024, including a $23.47 million signing bonus paid up front — making him an NFL millionaire before he took his first regular-season snap. His base salary rises each year under the rookie pay scale, and the Patriots hold a fifth-year team option.
His net worth is estimated at approximately $12 million as of early 2026 (via EssentiallySports), with some outlets placing it in the $12–15 million range. He also earns from endorsements with brands including Gillette, Betterment, and Abercrombie & Fitch, plus NIL-era deals dating back to his college days.
